Located in the North Male Atoll, Kurumba Maldives can be found on the island of Vihamanaafushi, in the Maldives. Managed by Universal Resorts, Kurumba Maldives is the country’s first Maldives resort and its current design is credited to architect Mohamed Shafeeq.
The resort initially opened in 1972 with its founders including local Maldivians, Mohamed Umar Maniku and Hussain Afeef. Named after the word for coconut in the local Dhivehi language, Kurumba began as a collection of 30 rooms constructed using local material with walls made from coral stone and roofs composed of palm thatch.
